Performance appraisal system is the process of assessing an employee’s performance based on a set of standards. Performance appraisal system may be described as a structured formal interaction between a supervisor and subordinate, that usually is being done in the form of a periodic interview. Generally, it is being done annually. In this periodic interview the work performance of the subordinate/employee is examined and discussed by supervisor. Purpose of appraisal system is to identify weaknesses and strengths of employee.
For any company to achieve its goals/objectives and to sustain its growth in the present competitive world, the performance of each and every individual employee plays a major role. The performance of the employees should be assessed periodically to make their contribution to higher extend. The process of measurement of the performance of the employees at work is called performance appraisal.
There are many methods available to measure the performance of the employees at work- place but 360 – degree performance appraisal method is very popular method. Large companies are using this method to evaluate the performance of the employees.
Most employers take base from appraisal system to increase/decrease pay, bonus and promotions of the employees. This trend is becoming popular with the Indian private sector and MNCs and in the Indian public sectors. The appraisal report lets the boss and subordinate develop a plan for correcting any deficiencies, and to reinforce the things the subordinate does right.
Infosys, a large IT company, is using a method of 360 – degree appraisal system for the evaluation of their employee’s performance and in our project report, it will be examined that method of 360-degree appraisal system is how much successful in Infosys Limited.
Company Infosys limited is having a huge base of employees. Presently there are more than two lacs employees are working in the company. Company main asset is professional manpower. Many employees leave the company after getting the training from the company. Company has to attract the employees in such a way that employees should not leave the company after joining Infosys ltd. This transparent appraisal system is one of the tools which attracts employees in Infosys limited
