Case Study

Mr Vivek Verma after his completion of engineering degree in 1992, started his career with for GOMMA ENGENEERING (PVT.) LIMITED, a Mumbai based company engaged in manufacturing of plant and machinery for food processing companies. He was responsible for all installations and maintenance of new and existing plants. After working for more than ten years with company he left the job and recently started his own ice-cream manufacturing company at Lucknow. As he was having a specialization in plant installation he has done it well. The brand name of the ice cream is ‘FUNDAY’. Initially he started creating demand with the help of personal references but after completion of one year he could not even reach to break even point. He started facing problems in terms of marketing of his product. He is finding it very tough to market the product in open market because of the fact that ice cream industry is a highly competitive industry and along with the major brands like ‘KWALITY’ ‘MOTHER DAIRY’ ‘AMUL’ ‘CREAM BELLS’ ‘BASKIN ROBINES’ , many local players also operates in the market. Although quality of ‘FUNDAY’ icecream is equally good but he is not able to market the product. He is having a small fund base so he cannot afford to spend much on promotion also. He is not able to understand how to develop a strong channel of distribution. He has already invested almost all of his capital in the business. He is not able to understand what to do. He is in trouble. 1. What might be the probable motivation that Mr. Verma left a good settled job and started his own enterprise? 2.
